28 January 2016 – STANLIB is proud to have received top accolades for both its Multi-Manager Global Bond Fund and its Offshore America Fund at last night’s Raging Bull Awards ceremony.
The annual Raging Bull Awards recognise excellence across the unit trust industry for top outright performers, best risk-adjusted performers and the best unit trust management companies, including foreign-domiciled funds that have been approved by the Financial Services Board (FSB) as suitable for South African investors.
Commenting on the win, STANLIB CEO, Seelan Gobalsamy says, “STANLIB continuously strives towards investment excellence. Although accolades are not our only objective, winning reputable awards is testament to the passion with which we deliver our investment promise to clients.”
The STANLIB Multi-Manager Global Bond Fund was awarded a certificate for top performance in the Best Risk-Adjusted Offshore Global Fixed Interest Bond category. The Fund was established in 1998 with the objective of outperforming the Barclays Capital Multiverse Index.
Fund Manager, Kent Grobbelaar says, “The success of this portfolio can be attributed to our clients, whose trust and continued patronage through volatile and uncertain markets have allowed us to focus on the longer term, to our world class investment professionals, and to the input from our offshore advisor, FundQuest.”
The STANLIB Multi-Manager Global Bond Fund is well diversified across major international bond markets, such as the US, UK, Europe, Asia and South America. There are four underlying managers, namely Capital, BlackRock, Columbia Threadneedle and Brandywine. Each manager makes independent country, currency and duration calls for optimal outcome in their particular segment. STANLIB Multi-Manager actively manages the weighting of the portfolio between these different underlying accounts.
STANLIB’s Offshore America Fund also received a certificate for the best Risk-Adjusted Offshore USA Equity General fund. The Fund, established in 1997, has achieved the highest PlexCrown rating over five years. It is benchmarked against the S&P500 Index and has a 94% exposure to equity, mostly in the US.
“The fund, managed by Fidelity, is in the top quartile versus competitors over one, three and five years,” says Paul Hansen, STANLIB’s Retail Investment Director.
Last year, STANLIB was named the Best Asset Manager based in Frontier Markets by the well-respected Global Finance magazine.
