The Standard Bank Group's principal asset management operation by size is
STANLIB, which is also based in Johannesburg. STANLIB is an international asset
manager with over US$40 billion assets under management and it manages money on
behalf of more than 400,000 individual clients as well as substantial life
assurance and third party retirement fund assets. STANLIB employs over 50
investment professionals and pursues an active management approach to its
investments. Its highly qualified team adds value both through extensive
proprietary research and through a proven investment process supported by an
infrastructure of risk management control.
STANLIB and Standard Bank Group African Coverage
STANLIB has been managing money in South Africa since 1969 and in continental
Africa since 1995, where it has stand-alone operations in Botswana, Kenya,
Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland and Uganda and it manages mandates in Mozambique and
the Sudan. North and West African markets are covered by experts in the region
based in Johannesburg. In South Africa, STANLIB's expertise covers every sector
of the stock market and it is the acknowledged market leader in listed property
investments.
STANLIB's expertise is available to international investors through three US$
denominated UCITS compliant collective investments, or pooled funds, which we
believe are the first of their kind anywhere in the world. The funds are
sub-funds of Standard Master Funds, an umbrella fund which is domiciled in
Dublin, Ireland. Standard Master Funds is regulated by the Irish Financial
Services Regulatory Authority.
